Beyond particulate matter, moisture is one of the most prevalent contaminants in hydraulic fluids, leading to oil oxidation and component corrosion. Coalescing filter elements utilize surface-treated specialized media to cause tiny emulsified water droplets to collide and merge (coalesce) into larger drops as they pass through the layers. These larger droplets then settle out of the fluid by gravity. In aviation fuel and turbine oil systems, this multi-stage coalescing and separation solution is the primary method for ensuring a dry, moisture-free environment.
